Dance Piece for Peace V - "Slow Motion Day" on YouTube!

This is "Dance Piece for Peace V" - a part of "Slow Motion Day" day 5 of 7. We spent 12 hrs talking and moving in slow-motion. It was more a internal slow-motion than anything.

"Dance Piece for Peace V" is the X-mas dance. Merry X-mas! War is Over!

This day we also read the lost Life Magazine interview from 1969 by Charles Childs with John & Yoko. Joan Athey, author from Canada, wanted to share this public world premiere of the interview with us and we spent 50 minutes reading it with her live over Skype. Andrea read the part of John and Daniel the part of Yoko.
You can find the full interview over at Bambuser.

This is "Dance Piece for Peace II" - a part of "Bagism Day" day 2 of 7. We spent 4 hrs with papersbags over our heads and danced an encore for The World March for Peace's Base Team staying in Savonlinna, Finland, over Skype later that night.

The World March for Peace

Two members of the Base Team. After their visit to our room they flew heads over heels into a cab and directly to the airport for their flight heading to Copenhagen. They will arrive in Punta de Vacas in Argentine the 2nd of Jan 2010. We never had time to offer them coffee during the visit but we did sing for them.

Give Peace a Chance - Joan says hi!

Joan sent us this picture from her book "Give Peace a chance" - get it over at Amazon. During the week she would call us up and read an essay out of it. This was one of the highpoints of each day.
Two of the stories she has in the book she never got around to but she told us we could hear them some other time - feels reassuring!

One thing that happens during a Bed-in is that your perception of time gets altered in a very radical way. We have to admit we did plan on keeping ourselves busy during the week and busy we were, so busy we didn't have time to post stuff here on the blog as frequently as we would have wanted to - but come to think of it, it was probably due to that same phenomena, the perception of time. Perhaps we moved very, very slowly inside. It is a good feeling anyways, slowing down is a good thing.

Here is one of the original photos Joan sent us. She sent us more, and some real gems... but we can't publish them here. They are NOT out there yet.

Dance Piece for Peace VI

Dance Piece for Peace VI
Music: "I´m only sleeping" - Lennon/McCartney
Danced and choreographed by Daniel Andersson & Andrea C Rygh

Sixth Day - "Peace March Day" turned "Failure Day" turned "Total Magical Night".
Day started off with technical issues, server going down, cameras acting up but we were still in good spirits. We waited for the marchers. Day was an utter technical failure. And then marchers stood us up. Luckily we had plan a little concert and we also got a chance to perform this Dance Piece for Peace VI in front of an live audience.

"Imagine" by John Lennon on You Tube

Final day of our Bed-in the Base Team form Thea World March for Peace and Non--violence visited the room.
We had a talk and we sang them a song.

This is "Imagine" by John Lennon. Performed by Bed-in for Peace Stockholm 2009.

You taught us how, now we can do the peace-fingers fluently. True.

Peace, Love & Joan!

Kulturnyheterna - LOVE, PEACE & TELEVISION!

We made the Swedish public service television cultural-news - Kulturnyheterna!

On our 7th day in bed we got a call from the Swedish public service company Sveriges Television asking about how to pronounce Andrea's surname. Andrea repeated the pronunciation a few times and, BAM! -Petra nailed it. Much too our enjoyment in the room. Must say the spirit has gone up some.

The short but too us very rewarding mentioning can be seen again tonight at 22.40 on channel SVT 1.

You can watch it here until the 6th of Nov.

Here's a pic of Petra and us in the background. Yep, the quality is subpar but click the image and you will see the actual song we are playing.

Peace! It ain't too hard to sell! It took us 7 days to get publicity. Big SMILE!

Fight for Peace Games VI : re-play

Ok, so Andrea beat me again. I even forced a re-play on her because I found indescrepencies in the video. She admitted to have played foul and accepted the re-play. I can't tell you how lucky she was. I left to chance which colors to use and she took advantage like a shark.

She got my Secret code in 5. I got hers at 8.

Don't think we will need to play the last of the games. She is plain better.

This concludes the Fight for Peace Games. It's Andrea 4 1/2 and Daniel 2.
She won. That's all.

And out.

Bed-in Stockholm on YouTube

We are now starting to upload videos to YouTube so you can re-live our Bed-in.

Here is the first clip.

This is "Oh, Yoko" by John Lennon.
Performed as part of Bed-in for Peace Concert at "World March for Peace Day", we renamed it "Failure Day" because of utter technical failures throughout the day. But in the end, it was a great day.

Fight for Peace Games VI - Andrea WINS it ALL

It's over. There was nothing I could do. I even admitted to cheating - or maybe that was the reason I finally had to cave in. She beat me. She won. She beat me in that funny looking Master Mind type of game she had - it wasn't even a REAL Master Mind.
I SO couldn't concentrate on how to solve it - the colours were just too weird. My head was just shut down. And yes, I even tried to cheat. But since it was caught on tape I finally had to admit to cheating. Good thing, because I couldn't even remember the colours I peeked at.

Ok, so here it is. It is Andrea 4 and Daniel 2. She has got her 4 out of 7 and I cannot beat her now. All I can do is to try and win the last game to even it out some. I will try. And this time I'll pick the game - oh, wait. Think I'll pick Chess.

Joan Athey read us this poem

One of the highpoints of every day has become the time when Joan Athey calls to say "hi" and share with us some of her many stories. Today she also read us a poem. Here it is:

____________________________
From Joan Athey:

As Andrea and Daniel are highly skilled in movement, I thought they would especially enjoy this poem.

Moving Through The Mystery
by Peter Trower Victoria, BC.Canada 1963

We are moving through the mystery
in a rush of rented mornings
where conundrums of existence
dance across the window awnings,
Why is which? and what is whither?
cry the voices in the crawl space
underneath the floors of meaning
and beyond this no-at-all-place.

There is no vocuabulary
for the thoughts below the surface...
distant particles of answer
from some unimagined orifice
The reflections of the psyche
fall upon unknown waters...
shatter outward in to ripples
at the stones of the distorters.

Three time death is five time nothing...
there are footprints on the rainbow
and the ape and the professor
down the same long-trodden lane go.
There is no defense in dogma..
there is no escape in history ...
we are moving through the movement ..
we are moving through the mystery.

Dance Piece for Peace V
Music: Happy Xmas (War is Over) by John Lennon / Yoko Ono & The Plastic Ono Band and The Harlem Community Choir
Danced and Choreographed by Daniel Andersson & Andrea C Rygh

The 5th installment of Dance Piece for Peace had childhood x-mas spirit and happy eyes. We performed it during our "Slow Motion Day" - It was saying: Imagine Peace and dance (to the tune).

Fight for Peace Game V - utter humiliation

So, yesterday when we played the test game of Casino I swept her easily. She musta been worried.
Today she made new rules. And she won. So it's now 3 Andrea and 2 Daniel.

No, I am not bitter.

With a little help from my friends

We are 5 days into our Bed-in. We have a lot of ppl to thank, not only the ppl you can find in our list of sponsors to the right but of course also ppl behind those logos and ppl without logos. Yep, those exists,

I'd like to mention Åke! Thanks for the flashlights that will be used at tomorrows concert which starts in the Clarion lobby at 21.30. We will be performing a few songs and twinkle into the skies, or roof at Clarion.

Also, here's to Sarah! You are Capten Eo. Without her no sound, and no food. The mixer we're using and the microphone are hers. She also introduced me to her friend Mathias, that has lent me the 49 keys keyboard.

And here's to JuanP, Pelle and Jonas. You guys rock.

Peace!

The Lost Interview - John Lennon and Yoko Ono for Life Magazine 1969

Our Friend Joan Athey, author from Canada got up early this morning to share a very special moment with us.
She called us before heading off to work and we spent just under one hour on Skype.

Since we have Slow Motion Day today everything we do takes extra time... so there, the talk took a very long time

What she wanted to share with us today was an interview from back in 1969, an article written by the journalist Charles Childs, still alive and well in New York, written for Life Magazine. He met up with John and Yoko and talked to them about their Bed-in and their views on society, war, money and art. It is an un-published article and got pushed aside because of articles surrounding the Vietnam War - or so the story goes. I am Sure Joan can tell us more about the history of this lost article.

So there she was, Joan on our screen and our livefeed taking on the pat as Charles Childs as we worked our way through the article. Andrea read John's answers, I did Yoko's.

We want to thank Joan for sharing this very rare moment with us, we are tremendously thankful for your generosity.

Peace!

Spinoff Effect of Slow Motion Day

So, right now we've spent almost 7hrs in Slow Motion Mode. Starting off this morning Linnea M called and wanted to check out if our slow motion talking indeed was slow motion. She recorded us and speeded it up. You be the judge.

Dance Piece for Peace IV

Dance Piece for Peace IV
Music: "God", John Lennon
Choreographed and performed by Daniel Andersson & Andrea C Rygh

Fourth day. It was a very hard day. First off the ambience in the room was less than friendly. We were both pretty much at each others throat the whole day. Times of questioning oneself are trying times.

So, Andrea performed "God" by John Lennon w/ myself on keyboard fill-ins. Then I did a homage to the Bobs (yes, both to the original one and the one in red pants in Russia). Joan Athey called it a "naked and honest rendition in Lennonesque spirit". We do not know what to say but, "thx!".

Out of body experience.

Dance Piece for Peace II

Dance Piece for Peace II
Music: "Raga Kausi Kanhra" by Ravi Shankar
Danced and choreographed by Daniel Andersson & Andrea Csaszni Rygh

We spent 4 hours in brown paperbags. We also performed this dance 3 times during the day. One of the time we performed it for the Base Team of the marches in The World March for Peace who were in Savonlinna, Finland with Juha.
It was a very intense experience. Out of this world really.

Dance Piece for Peace I-IV

So we are 4 dances down our list of Dance Pieces for Peace.

We would like to upload each of the dances seprately but will have to wait until we solve a minor video issue. These files are huge, 12hrs long and round about 40GB in size.

But if you stay around and are patient we will post them to our YouTube profile:

Soon.

Fight for Peace Games IV - pool on a bed?

I can't say it was enjoyable at all. She kept on moving around balls and was bickering the whole time. Anyways - Andrea won.
It wasn't honorable in any shape or form, considering the sloping green and the itsy bitsy tiny weenie setup. I do wish I would have won but I will be back tomorrow.

26th of Oct 2009, Monday
1: Tobias Billström - Line Piece; Tobbe got the almost too perfect instruction Erase lines.
2: Alan Jonson - Tape Piece IV; God luck!
3: Siv Jensen - Collecting Piece II; Its gonna keep her busy for a while.

We've been told we haven't demonstrated any skills in the "Peace Fingers" area. Tune in for our Skype-conversation with Joan Athey at around 19.00 and I am sure it will be remedied.!

Letters of Peace! 6 more Letters sent!!

Each day we send 3 letters to different persons.
Our letters contain instructional art from the book Grapefruit by Yoko Ono.
We choose them by shifting through the book fast and having the other saying: STOP followed by a number - page and piece on page. Today and yesterday we wrote to:

26th of Oct 2009, Monday
1: Avigdor Lieberman - Concert Piece; Yes I could easily se him playing around alone in the concert hall.
2: Dan Eliasson - Kitchen Piece; Okej Dan now this would be a good way to spend your time.
3: Nicolas Sarkozy - Wisper piece; He could definately do with some whispering to stones or to a tree.

25th of Oct 2009, Sunday
1: Anders Fogh Rasmussen - Painting for the skies; the skies is a good thing to focus on.
2: Barack Obama - wind piece; Now earn the peace prize, and earn it well!
3: Carl Bildt - Pieces for orchestra; Yes you see the problem but we need the action.

EDIT: So, the last three hasn't made it out the door yet. They will be on their way tomorrow, first thing!

Joan Athey - Storyteller supreme!

So, it is safe to say our Bed-in truly is getting to our heads. Not because we are overrun by overzealous activists out there ready to pass the torch (we wish!) but more because of the lack of oxygen and the heat emanating from the machines in the room. I know Yoko and John didn't bother about bringing computers and what not into the room. I am also sure they didn't make the hotel patch a dedicated 100Mbit line into their room. But who knows, if Internet would've been around back in 1969, maybe that is exactly what they would have done. But I figure they probably would have organized their own satellite broadcast - besides, from what I gather, they couldn't have fit a computer of that time into the rooms they stayed in. We fit 4 in the room, heh.

Someone who knows a heck of a lot more about this is Joan Athey. How she found us, is a mystery to me, I am going to have to ask her tonight when she calls. If you read this Joan, remind me that I had something to ask you.

So Joan has called us twice and well, it has become one of them moments during the day we talk about and that we look forward to. She will keep on calling us for more Bed-in-time stories.

But, instead of complicating this the way I am just going to try and keep it short and simple. Here's to you Joan Athey!

---
Andrea and I were shocked right out of our bed when the Skype connection lit up on the first day with a call from Canada. It was Joan Athey. She wanted to know if we wanted to hear a bed-time story every day that we are at our Bed-in. Of course we said "YES".

She has written a beautiful book. At least it sounds beautiful. The first two essays are incredible and we loved them.

The name of her book is Give Peace A Chance: John and Yoko's Bed-in for Peace, 1969, by Joan Athey published by Wiley in May 2009. It is available in English, French and German and Swedes can buy it on-line at Amazon. It is the only book devoted to the Bed-in with over 80 amazing photos of John, Yoko, the celebrities, fans and gate-crashers who dropped by during the 8 days. The photographer Gerry Deiter (on assignment for Life Magazine) was the only photographer there the entire 8 days.

I wonder what story she will read to us today?

Fight for Peace Games III - this is getting ugly

Okey so Daniel won the Chess game and I´m not going to blame my loss in five moves on the fact that he played chess professionally when he was younger. No I´m not going to do that. So the score is now 2-1 to Daniel and the "Fight for Peace games" continues tomorrow.

The World March for Peace Sweden

We just had a very entertaining meeting with the Swedish co-ordinator of the The World March for Peace - Mabel Cruz.

She brought her kids and the filmmaker Cristian Andrade. Together we spoke with the Finish part of the March and the Base Team who has spent the day there in Savonlinna. Sauna, walks in the autumn cold and of course a visit to the old castle. Home of the Opera-festival of Savonlinna.

Anyways, we Skyped and they told us some about their endeavors. They are making a mad trip around the world and bringing with them The Nuclear Abolition Torch.
The 29th they will be here in Stockholm! We hope to invite them for coffee.

We will keep on posting these images since the last 500 entries always shifts. Perhaps we can follow The World March for Peace in some way mapping out the flags on a map. Tonight we talk to The World March in Finland!

Fight for Peace games: Andrea sweeps Daniel in Backgammon

Utterly annihilated I can only say, she swept me like a nasty broom.
The turning point was an aggressive, and stupid move on my part, thinking to myself I had it in my hands (oh, the vanity!), I wanted to do the ol' bait and run... but the bait just turned on me, and took me rod, line and sinker. It was impossible to stand up against those crucial double 3's x3 she threw at me.

She played me like a flute. I couldn't have fought my way out of a wet paper-bag today. Honestly.

Score: Daniel 1
Andrea 1

SARALUNDEN in for Peace!

At 21.30 CET Saralunden stepped into the room with a tight entourage of ppl longing to hear her perform. We were anxious to hear what she had been working on in support of our Bed-in for Peace.

So, suddenly she was there, the power-woman, pedals, cables, synths and a voice that can seriously bring you to tears.

She performed "Loneliness" and "Every man has a woman who loves him". It was magic. I was moved to tears, but had to try and keep up with her on my mini-maracas. We in the bed feel very thankful for the honour and the very special moment she shared with us. One thing though, I am not sure what happened but suddenly she almost took her top off. It must have been a mix of the hot, hot room (it gets warm in here) and the excitement of the show . Make sure to check the clip afterwards if you missed it.

Thank you SARALUNDEN!

Fight for Peace games 1-0 to Daniel

We have a session of games once a day during our bed-in and today we played The Missing Diamond. Daniel won so its now 1-0 to Daniel.
Next game tomorrow!

Letters of Peace! 3 Letters Written!

Each day we send 3 letters to different persons.
Our letters contain instructional art from the book Grapefruit by Yoko Ono.
We choose them by shifting thorugh the book fast and having the other saying: STOP followed by a number - page and piece on page. Today we wrote to:

1: Benny Dagan - Shadow Piece; this one is interesting and it can keep Benny busy for a long time.
2: G-20 Secretariat - Mess Piece; imagine all of them doing THAT mess.
3: Nyamko Sabuni - Blood Piece; we do not wish anyone to die. Nyamko please choose "A"! Please!

More tomorrow!

Contact links are up - Tomorrow we start!

Okey so hipp hipp hurrey! Now there is only one day to go before the bed-in starts and I was just talking to Daniel about what an effort we have made to make this happen. When Yoko and Lennon did it in 1969 they probably just had a whim and desided to do a bed-in, and then they did it, without having to think for a second about the costs, paying to put up commercial posters with messages like "WAR IS OVER IF YOU WANT IT" all over town.
We on the other hand have sponsors up over our ears to make the bed-in happen.
I have the feeling that a lot of things where a lot easier in the late 60s, I meen practical things where maybe a bit less complicated and problematic I think.

Our room is now a tecnical heaven with green and blue lights like a magical aquarium and Daniel and Jonas are playing Titanic by Mikael Wiehe. It coulden´t get better. Jonas is now getting very engaged playing the gitarr with a spanish temprament.

Anyway!

We have now created links on the top of the blog to our LIVE stream, our SKYPE contact info and to our MAIL adress. This can be used when you want to report to the dance festival and to communicate with us during the bed-in.

We are on LIVE tomorrow at 12:am, in the beds and with a concert by Sara Lunden at 9.30:pm from the room. Dont miss it!

Bedding by Drottningen av Saba

I ran into Ellen Utterström (The queen of Saba) at Wisp´s lecture a while ago and it proved that Ellen makes clothes that are a littlebit like pyjamas, that they feel like you are wearing a pyjamas. So she told us we could borrow some clothes for the week and we are super pleased and we love the outfits.
Thanks to WomenInStagePerformance also for bringing us together!
